Key Responsibilities

● Own the design and development of mechanical systems and components, ensuring they meet project goals, quality and performance requirements.
● Oversee testing and validation, resolve complex engineering challenges and ensure compliance with industry standards.
● Assist in documenting and refining design processes and collaborate with other engineering disciplines for seamless integration and delivery.
● Drive continuous innovation by exploring new technologies, materials and methodologies, proposing solutions to enhance product performance, reliability and desirability.
● Ensure all updates and changes are accurately reflected in our design documentation.
● Translate product and business requirements into technical solutions and validation methods.
● Lead the identification of mechanical hazards, failure modes and project risks.
● Travel when required to company headquarters in Los Angeles and key suppliers.

Required Qualifications/Experience:

● BEng/MEng in Mechanical/Design Engineering or related subjects.
● 5+ years’ experience developing electro-mechanical products.
● Excellent 2D and 3D CAD skills with Solidworks or Inventor.
● Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and GD&T.
● Experience developing sheet metal, CNC and injection moulded components.
● Prototyping and evaluation skills with rapid prototyping, metrology and workshop tools.
● Design analysis using simulation and tolerance stack analysis.
● Demonstrated success developing products for low and high volume manufacturing.
● Ability to visualise and communicate designs and technical proposals effectively.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

● CNC industrial machinery design and installation.
● Design for regulated markets (medical, automotive, defence).
● Motion, vision and/or control (camera, sensor and actuator integration).
● Design and simulation for thermal management.
● Design and testing of IP/IK rated products.
● Verification testing of design from prototype to production release (in-house/3rd party labs).
● Failure, hazard and risk analysis.
● Mains powered industrial equipment.
● Integration of wireless modules (e.g. WIFI, Bluetooth, RFID).
● Experience using PDM and PLM software for data management.
● Understanding of user safety and ergonomics.
● Product visualization and rendering e.g. Keyshot
