Salary to be discussed and in line with experience plus benefits

Enigma People Solutions is delighted to have been exclusively retained by Vector Photonics, arguably one of the marquee companies in the Scottish Photonics sector, to recruit a Senior GaN Engineer to work alongside their engineering team on an ongoing GaN project.

Our client Vector Photonics, founded in 2020, is a spin out from the University of Glasgow. They boast patented award-winning technology that unlocks the next generation of semiconductor-lasers. Vector is a fabless, laser supplier of disruptive technology to multiple markets. The Vector Photonics team has over 50 years of R&D experience as well as over 50 Years of commercial experience in III-V semiconductor photonics. Recently winning funding to develop surface emitting lasers for the data communications market and is now recruiting an engineering team to deliver the project. Their vision is to be a world leading supplier of Surface Emitting Semiconductor Lasers for unmet needs in current & emerging high growth applications.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a candidate with the drive, commitment, skills and experience to join a truly unique team and business as an influential and senior engineer. You will work collaboratively with the Engineering Team on an ongoing GaN project. You will utilise your deep understanding of GaN material as well as theoretical and practical knowledge of laser technologies, particularly GaN lasers including modelling capability and experimental experience.

This role is based at Vector Photonics lab in Glasgow and reports to the CTO.

Key Responsibilities
o Plan and conduct assigned R&D work individually or jointly in accordance with the project deliverables and department research strategy.
o Contribute to the acquisition, set up, maintenance and integration of experimental apparatus or computational kit, and in setting up theoretical models and analysis strategies.
o Develop and maintain processes for the manufacturing and testing of semiconductor Lasers. o Collaborate with colleagues and participate in team/group meetings.
o Comply with the company safety policies at all times, be familiar with safety requirements when working in the laboratories and whilst operating various equipment.
o Be familiar with external advances in the field by pursuing data through literature.

o Specialist theoretical and practical knowledge of semiconductor laser design fabrication, test and analysis
o Experience with GaN manufacturing and techniques for growing GaN crystals, such as molecular beam epitaxy or metalorganic vapor phase epitaxial (MOVPE) growth, also known as metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD), would be advantageous.
o Experience developing GaN devices, ideally laser diodes.
o Knowledge of specialist IT software (e.g. MATLAB, LabView, C, R Soft etc.) as appropriate
o Ability to design, build and optimise automated laboratory test and measurement apparatus. o Be able to choose and implement appropriate testing methods of optoelectronic devices would be advantageous.
o Theoretical and practical knowledge of laser technologies, particularly GaN lasers, including modelling capability and experimental experience
