This role is for an Electronics Design Engineering Manager, who will lead and mentor the Electronics Design Engineering team including playing a vital role in continuous improvement, managing resource, training, executing the full electronics development lifecycle of our laser products and ensuring timely delivery of projects. This management role will also require collaboration with the wider organisational management team in aligning objectives and goals and promoting an innovative, creative and collaborative culture. This is not just a management, but also a hands-on role and it is a great opportunity to work on a broad range of technologies from design to production release and support of our cutting-edge laser systems.
Responsibilities will include:
Manage, grow, motivate, and maintain a cross-functional team of Electronics Engineers and deliver exceptional hardware solutions for laser products.
Provide excellent leadership and practical input into hardware development strategy, coordinate/manage cost and schedule and ensure best processes and procedures are implemented and adhered to.
Conduct performance reviews, skilfully manage resources and be responsible for recruitment of engineers.
Ensure excellent collaboration amongst the Electronics Engineering team and the other relevant departments.
Communicate the requirements, challenges, accomplishments and objectives with senior management.
Obsolescence management and maintain / support legacy products.
Reliability and regulatory testing of products.
Assist with practical design and development, hands on debugging, simulation and validation of electronics and systems when necessary.
Occasional UK and international travel is required.
Education and Experience
Essential Skills
Experience in managing multi-skill engineers on electronics engineering projects through full product lifecycle.
Demonstrable leadership skills to motivate and grow the department.
Ability to collaborate with the wider business teams to set expectations, objectives, handle deadlines, constraints and timely delivery of projects.
Experience in managing project budgets, schedule control/monitor and cost reduction programmes.
Proven experience in applying electronics/systems delivery processes and procedures with emphasis on quality and efficiency in an industrial environment.
Experience in microcontroller and mixed analogue and digital circuit designs.
A good understanding of product design from specification through to delivery with consideration for DFT and DFM.
Practical experience in Schematics Capture, Layout and PCB Design Tools.
Excellent debugging skills and ability to integrate and validate electronic and system designs.
Knowledge and experience in RoHS, EMC / LVD regulatory testing and CE product approval process.
Preferred additional Skills
Design experience in STM32F series ARM core processors.
Test equipment development to support production and manufacturing.
